Doreen Chappell

Tutor Assessor

Doreen graduated with a degree in English and American Literature from the University of Warwick before completing a PGCE at Worcester College of Education. Early in her teaching career, she worked with learners who faced significant learning and behavioural challenges, an experience that sparked her long-standing interest in literacy difficulties and dyslexia.

Throughout her career, Doreen held a variety of teaching and leadership roles within Adult and Community Learning across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. As Curriculum Manager for English, Maths and ESOL, she led a team of around 70 staff

while developing training programmes, delivering accredited courses, and promoting awareness of dyslexia and inclusive practice.

Alongside her professional roles, Doreen completed a Master's degree in Dyslexia Studies and specialised in supporting learners with dyslexia across a range of educational settings. Since retiring from full-time work, she has continued to support students in Higher Education and contribute to professional training through the Level 5 Diploma programme. She enjoys sharing her knowledge, collaborating with colleagues, and continuing to develop her expertise in the field of dyslexia.
